I have been writing to one of the Senators for Kansas, sometimes twice a day, every day, since Trump has once again descended on America. So far, the senator has not responded in any way except for an autoresponder to two of my emails.
I am posting here to see if anyone in the U.S. cares enough to discuss the coup, which is a clear and present danger to our democracy.
Dear Senator Moran,
As a retired individual, I never imagined I would feel compelled to spend so much time advocating for the defense of our democracy. However, I feel a deep responsibility to express my concerns regarding our republic’s future.
I want to be clear: I support nonviolence and peaceful discussion. I completely reject and condemn any violence against you or any public servant. I’m writing to express my worries and contribute positively to public discussion. I believe this is vital for the preservation of democratic principles.
This administration’s actions and executive decisions are worrisome. This seems to show a worrying trend of consolidating power, which could weaken the checks and balances crucial to our constitution. The erosion of these safeguards has historically risked authoritarian governance.
I write to you, clinging to hope and optimism. Still, I have serious concerns about where our country is headed. “Project 2025” and similar efforts to expand presidential power are troubling signs for the future of our democracy. Future historians may see these actions as power grabs that endanger our republic’s foundations.
Senator Moran, as a Kansan representative, I implore you to protect our democracy and its institutions. Accountability, transparency, and democratic norms are especially vital during these difficult times. How future generations remember you depends on your actions today. Will history remember you as a steadfast defender of our democracy, or as one who was silent during its decline?
I appreciate your service and your attention to the concerns of constituents such as myself. I hope you will continue to prioritize the long-term health of our democracy in your work.
Sincerely,
Elliott
