Concerns Over Executive Power in Democracy

Dear Kansas Senator Jerry Moran,

Letter dated 02-11-2025

I’m writing as a taxpayer and one of the folks you’re supposed to represent to express some real concerns about where our democracy’s headed. Right now, it looks like respect for the rule of law is hanging by a thread, and frankly, it seems like executive power is being stretched way beyond what it ought to be. We didn’t sign up for a king or some unstoppable leader calling all the shots. That’s not the America we stand for.

The checks and balances that keep our government honest and functional are at serious risk. If you honestly believe the Constitution allows that kind of unchecked authority, I’d appreciate you coming right out and saying it—because I can’t trust someone who stands by while democratic principles are trampled.

I’ve reached out to your office more than once, and it’s been pretty disappointing to see little evidence that you’re standing up for the wide range of values Kansans hold dear. Too often, your actions look like you’re walking in lockstep with the administration instead of listening to the people you’re paid to represent.

I expect you to show the backbone and independence Kansans respect—not just cater to special interests or political pressure. And another thing—take me off your newsletter list. It’s nothing but fluff, and I’m not interested in a PR parade that avoids reporting any real accomplishments.

It’s time to reconsider how you’re handling this role. Representing all Kansans means acting with integrity, courage, and a dedication to protecting democratic values.

Thanks for reading.
